Why are Christians donating towards The Qur'an Project?

Over the last 48 hours, the Qur’an Project has received an increasing number of donations and messages of support from Christians. The Qur'an Project team was rather perplexed as to why this started happening all of sudden. 

They then came across an ‘Open letter written to Terry Jones’ [US Pastor who announced his plans to burn 2,998 copies of the Qur’an on 9/11] by Mark Sandlin [Ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church and blogger for Huffington Post]. (See Here)

In the letter, Mark Sandlin recommended his readers to donate to the Qur’an Project and post the following message, “Christians and friends replacing the Qur'ans lost because of Terry Jones. We are sorry and we love you.” We have subsequently received many donations and messages of support. It was a warm gesture from Mark to counteract the foolish behavior of others by asking people to replace the ones that Terry had intended to set alight.
